Pandemic (Avian) Flu

Independence Blue Cross (IBC), along with health organizations, governments, and communities worldwide, is closely monitoring the current threat of a pandemic flu outbreak. Nevertheless, it is still nearly impossible to predict exactly where or when a pandemic flu might start or, if in fact, it will start.

In the event of an outbreak, IBC will follow all necessary precautions and recommendations as directed by the Centers for Disease Control, federal, state, and local governments. Additionally, we suggest that you take the time now to learn what to do to prepare yourself and your family, and how you should respond—should an outbreak occur.

  1. Get the facts. Review these facts and frequently asked questions about seasonal flu, avian flu, and a pandemic flu.
  2. Know what to expect. Do you know what will happen at your workplace and on federal, state, and local levels in the event of an outbreak?
  3. Know what to do. What you can do to help protect yourself and your family and reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Your well-being is our first priority. We ask that you stay informed and prepared for this potential global health risk.
